Fully immersing an audience in a live concert taking place at another location? Let’s try it!

Immersion’ is arguably the secret to creating exceptional entertainment experiences, these days. And Barco is certainly doing its utmost to help cinemas offer their visitors a truly immersive experience. So why not take it a step further still? A group of innovation enthusiasts within Barco is working hard to introduce ‘immersion’ at live events and entertainment venues. And they’re all excited about their very first live trial: the Immersive Festival Experience, taking place this Sunday.

Immersive Festival Experience
“We believe that Barco Escape, our innovative projector/screen configuration, is ideal for immersing people in images, at just about any venue. We were therefore happy to join forces with the popular Belgian music festival Leffingeleuren, art festival ‘Beaufort’ and telecoms giant Proximus, to create a brand-new festival experience,” explains Wim Vandamme, a passionate member of the Barco team that launched the initiative. The live tribute concert that the festival scheduled for the New York composer, musician and poet Moondog this Sunday, 20 September, will be directly streamed to a remote venue in Middelkerke. We’re currently installing our Escape configuration – three digital cinema projectors with three screens – at the venue to ensure that the people there will feel as if they were actually at the live concert.

An experiment
“The cooperation with Leffingeleuren and Beaufort is a real first and an experiment, in fact,” Wim continued. “We will hand out questionnaires at the end of the performance, to gauge people’s feedback and see if this type of experiences meets a real need. If all goes well, this might open up major opportunities for festival/concert organizers to stream their performances and, consequently, attract (new) audiences and generate extra revenues.”

We warmly invite you to join this `Immersive Festival Experience’ at ‘the Branding’ in Middelkerke, on Sunday night, 20 September (doors open at 19:00h). The Leffingeleuren festival runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September next, in Leffinge (West-Flanders, Belgium).
