Driving innovation
Without even taking into account `dieselgate’, the automotive industry
is facing a number of challenges today: customer demands are higher than
ever, and time-to-market is turning into a ‘race-to-market’. Meanwhile,
budgets remain stringently tight…
To streamline the development process and cut testing expenses,
manufacturers are increasingly turning to driving simulators. This
allows them to gather feedback earlier in the design process, resulting
in better and more innovative cars.
Steering towards success
One of the most advanced simulators is VI-DriveSim by VI-grade, which
introduces various high-end features in a compact and cost-effective
design. The unit comes in two different configurations: static and
dynamic. The first lets users drive a virtual vehicle model from a fixed
cockpit, while vehicle behavior is visualized on a wide screen. The
latter adds motion feedback by means of a moving platform.
In both cases, the visual environment is entirely powered by Barco’s F50
WUXGA projectors. This unique, single-chip DLP® projector combines
exceptional resolution with active 3D stereo and high frame rates. “The
F50 delivers razor-sharp images with vivid colors and contrasts”,
explains Diego Minen, Technical Director at VI-grade. “To top it all
off, it’s extremely reliable and ensures a low total cost of ownership.
We couldn’t think of a better solution for our flagship driving
simulator!”
